TCS Firing\Mass Layoff 2014-2015 



TCS is in news headlines these days not because of its good quarter result or growth but because of its employee restructuring. In other words it is the mid level managers layoff. Companies like Infosys, Wipro, Yahoo and Cognizant have done this type of layoff in recent past but never targeted a particular segment.
As TCS is planning to hire 55000 fresher in 2015 it is clear that company is in good growth. Just to increase the profit margin they are replacing the high salaried people with fresher’s.
Many exemplary resources stay with TCS just because of the job security. Due to this layoff many lost faith in TCS and it is sure that they will quit the firm once the situation stabilizes. A perfect example in front of us is Infosys Layoff that happened few years back and they are still struggling to retain their talented resources.


What is employee restructuring:-

Usually all the IT firm work on the standard pyramid structure with fresher’s constitute the bottom layer and as we go up the layer the count should get decrease. Given below is the ideal designation pyramid for TCS.









But as sources say the mid level is not fitting the pyramid so they are vigorously cutting down the head counts. A small percentage cut (1%-2%) is common in IT industry but a layoff of 30000 (10%) is biggest after the Satyam Debacle. The bitter truth is top level people has contacts and will escape from this firing. And those who at the middle level (ASTs) management section will be the scapegoats.

Few employees revealed that underperforming resources are replaced with fresher to meet the profit/quarter results. Under performing means getting consecutive C band for 2 times
Few others commented that well performing highly salaried people are also getting fired. Those who got band A are also in the list just because of their fat packages.
The list is prepared from the corporate level, most of the time even supervisors are not aware. Resources shared in the list will be forcefully released from the project that will end their project allocation.  In order to make these cases as “Involuntary Attrition” strict instruction has been given to RMG and all the managers not take any ASTs +  until the layoff  target is achieved (say February end). Now it is easy for the workforce to terminate the employee as he/she is in bench unallocated.
Because of the social media intervention TCS has stopped sending written mail communication on termination fearing legal complication but executes the layoff in a concealed way. Saddest part is all the Medias are keeping quiet and supporting this kind of unethical act. Request all of you to share your thoughts on it.
